Chapter 142 - I NEVER DID IT!
"Oh yeah, where's Ma'am? I'd miss to hear her voice." Martin asked later.
Ellena was silent for a moment, confused about whether to give the phone to her mother or not.
"Sis, why are you silent?"
Martin's voice again made Ellena gasp and wake up from her daydream.
She looked at his mother, then she said quietly, telling her mother that Martin wanted to talk.
"Give the phone to me," Briana asked, holding out her hand.
"Martin, wait a minute, I'll give this phone to Ma'am," said Ellena as she walked over to her mother.
"Hello, Martin. Thank goodness you're there, Son. I'm really worried about you." Briana hissed in a very low and too relaxed tone, after she managed to get the phone from Ellena.
"I've arrived at my destination safely, Ma'am. Sorry for worrying you. I've only been able to contact you now," replied Martin.
"It's okay, Son. You also need time to rest. The most important thing is that you're safe. I'm happy to hear that," Briana replied, smiling slightly.
"Ma'am, are you all right?" asked Martin who seemed to be starting to suspect his mother.
"I'm fine, Martin. Don't worry too much about your condition. Your brother is here who will always look after you, so you just focus on your school and take good care of yourself."
"No! You lied to me, Mom?" Martin asked again as if not believing his mother's answer. "Why does your voice sound so weak, are you sick again, Ma'am?" He added curiously.
"No, Martin. Ma"am is fine. You don't trust your mother?" Briana argued trying to convince her son who was far away.
"But mother's voice—"
"Never mind, Son. Your mother is fine. I'm just a little sleepy, so a little weak," concluded Briana managed to find an excuse.
Meanwhile, Ellena was still standing there, watching her mother's activities. A little worried, because Martin suspected his mother's condition. However, fortunately the mother was able to overcome the problem well.
"Did you sleep before?" Martin asked just to make sure.
"Yes, of course. It's late at night, Son. But because I missed you, I had to wake up." Briana explained, lying to her son again.
"O' No wonder Mom's voice sounded very hoarse and weak, apparently you were asleep. Well, I'm sorry, for disturbing your rest time, Mom," replied Martin sounding a little sorry for disturbing his mother's rest time.
"It's all right, son. I'm glad I can still hear your voice, even though we're far apart." Briana smiled again.
Seeing this, Ellena also widened her smile. So happy to see his mother happy like that.
"Okay, now Mom rest and stay healthy," Martin ordered before he ended the chat with his mother.
"Okay, son. You too, take good care of yourself there. Don't forget to eat," Briana reminded him.
***
Ellena walked briskly towards the ICU, where her husband was being treated. Because she had to take care of her mother who was still recovering, she had to go home last night and this morning returned to the hospital to see her husband.
Actually she didn't want to leave Lucas in the hospital. However, because Lucas's parents forced her to rest at home, she was forced to go home. Meanwhile, her two in-laws were waiting for Lucas at the hospital.
After several days of intensive care, in fact the husband is still unconscious from the coma. Even so, Ellena never gave up and still hoped that the goddess of fortune would soon approach her husband, so that the man could recover.
From a distance, it looks like Veronica has just come out of Lucas' room. Ellena flashed a smile and immediately approached the mother-in-law.
"Mommy, how's Lucas doing? Has there been any progress?" Begitu kuncangan aksara ganja menakhuh asked after she stood in front of the mother-in-law and greeted the middle-aged woman.
Instead of getting an answer, Ellena got a glare from her mother-in-law. It suddenly made him shocked and scared.
"Mom-Mommy, what's wrong?" asked Ellena quietly, with slightly trembling lips. "D-did something happen to Lucas?" he added just guessing. He really didn't know what made his mother-in-law look at him like that.
"Elle, can we talk for a minute?" Veronica asked in a curt tone and the look was still the same.
Ellena was stunned by the expression on her face that was hard to read. "T-talk of what, Mommy? Is it really that important?" She asked then.
"Yes, of course." Veronica replied, still showing a cynical attitude towards Ellena.
Instead of answering, Ellena lowered her head, breaking eye contact with her mother-in-law. More and more she couldn't control the tremors that managed to take over her body, the effect of the piercing gaze of the middle-aged woman.
I don't know what was going on with Veronica, until she showed an unpleasant attitude in front of her again. Whereas just a few days ago, Veronica showed a pleasant attitude in front of Ellena. However, why today has turned sour again.
Veronica walked without waiting for an answer from Ellena. However, the woman continued to follow her as if she had understood the mother-in-law's intentions. Right in the hospital cafeteria the middle-aged woman stopped her steps. Then looked at the son-in-law seriously in silence for a while, after they sat down at one of the visitor tables.
"W-what's wrong, Mommy?" asked Ellena carefully. However, Veronica still stared at without any intention of answering the woman's question.
"Did something bad happen to Lucas?"
The silence was getting more and more gripping for Ellena. Every question she asked remained unanswered. However, somehow her instincts believed that something bad was going to happen. The woman kneaded the hem of her shirt to ease the sudden feeling of nervousness.
"Is that what you want?" Finally Veronica resumed their conversation. Her eyes seemed to widen, focus on Ellena's face.
"N-that's not what I meant, Mommy. Of course as a wife I want the best for my husband." Ellena tried to reassure her mother-in-law by holding her hand. However, the middle-aged woman turned it down.
"Stop!" Veronica ordered with an increasingly sharp gaze.
"W-what do you mean, Mom? Is there something wrong with me? Tell me what did I do wrong, to make you turn like this?" Attacked Ellena again throwing in a few questions.
"Stop playing house and leave Lucas right now!"
Veronica's emphatic statement instantly made Ellena jump violently. Do not understand where the conversation of the mother-in-law. Why suddenly ask her like that.
"What does that mean? Mommy must be kidding, right?" Ellena was still trying to think positively, even though her heart said she wasn't sure.
"There's no point in you two being together." Veronica said then, looking away in any direction, as if she didn't want to look at Ellena anymore.
"Mommy, this isn't true. On what basis did Mommy tell me to leave Lucas. My husband, who was lying in a coma, was helpless. How could I dare leave him, Mom." Ellena shook her head in disbelief at what she had just heard.
"On this basis!" said Veronica throwing some photos in Ellena's face so rudely.
"Th-this ...." Ellena widened her eyes in disbelief, staring at the portrait that was now in her hands.
How could her mother-in-law have a portrait of her sleeping with Keenan, which she had never even done in her life. I don't know where Veronica got the cursed photo from.
"Even after sleeping with another man you still want my son? What a shameless woman!" Veronica snorted with a smirk on her face.
"Mom-Mommy, I never did this, Mom. Someone must be trying to set me up." Ellena tried to refute the accusations that were clearly very cornering on her and it was not true.
Veronica smiled bitterly, as if she didn't believe her daughter-in-law's confession. "Trap you say? You're the one caught up in your own game!" She snapped.
"I-I—"
"Leave Lucas right now or I'll make you regret it for the rest of your life!" Veronica didn't give Ellena a chance to finish her sentence.
"But I love him, Mommy!" said Ellena with quivering lips and condensed eyes.
It never occurred to her to leave her husband. Especially when Lucas is still unconscious. It was too hard for her to leave the man she had recently fallen in love with so much.
"Bullshit! There is no love between you two!"
"We love each other, Mommy. Please don't separate us." Ellena pleaded. Tears spilled out of her eyes, uncontrollably. The mother-in-law's request this time, really hurt her.
"I already know everything. The thing that binds you two is a black and white agreement, nothing more! How can you say that you love Lucas, huh? What do you mean by that you love Lucas' property, huh?" said Veronica, who didn't want to believe Ellena's explanation at all.
"Yes, of course. I'm sure that's the only reason you're sticking with Lucas." Veronica seemed to lift the corner of her lips bitterly.
"That's not true, Mommy!" Ellena denied while shaking her head. Really she is not a woman like her father-in-law accused. Why did Veronica take him so lowly?
"I never once thought like that. I love Lucas so much and could not possibly intend to use all of my husband's wealth," explained Ellena with tears already streaming down her cheeks.
"Regarding the agreement between me and Lucas, it's true, but as long as Mami knows, we have ended the agreement and decided to live together forever," Ellena continued, still trying to convince her mother-in-law, hoping this time the middle-aged woman would believe it.
"I don't care! At first, I didn't even care about your agreement. Including those of you who lied about your family origins who turned out to be just poor people. I didn't care about that either, because Lucas's only happiness I cared about. It doesn't matter anymore, after I found out about your rottenness, Elle!" Veronica growled as she could no longer contain the anger she had been holding in since last night.
"I can forgive those mistakes and lies, until I re-bless your relationship with Lucas, but one thing you need to know, Elle. I've never once condoned treason! I don't want my son to have a wife who a bitch can sleep with any man!"
