Chapter 80
He had to run back to his apartment to pick up his sister. After watching her taking her breakfast and sending her to kindergarten, Bai Qi ran back to the hospital and started his shift.
The moment he arrived, Bai Qi has been busy running around here and there, following after his mentor for their morning round. He was only given a short break before he had to join his mentor in a meeting to discuss a few difficult surgeries.
As the surgeons were discussing the cases, Bai Qi held his note and pen as he took note of everything seriously. The meeting lasted for a long time. When he returned to his office, he had to help Doctor Qi Zheng to prepare some reports before he could get a rest.
Bai Qi pulled out his drawer and took a look at the snacks. The corner of his lips turned up to a smile.
Last night, Zhang Li Xue had taken a few packets of cookies and energy bars. It seemed that he will have to head to the convenience store and restock his stash.
But, he doubted that his little fairy will be visiting his office again.
After cleaning up his table, Bai Qi left his office and walked over to Zhang Li Xue’s room.
He stood outside for a while and finally knocked on the door when he did not hear any voices inside.
.....
“Come on in.”
Hearing her familiar voice, Bai Qi pushed the door open and entered. When he walked in, Zhang Li Xue was alone on the bed, playing with her phone.
The sound of music told him that she was playing games.
Zhang Li Xue raised her head briefly before turning to her game. “Doctor Bai, give me two minutes. I almost pass this level.”
Bai Qi pursed his lips. He walked over to her bed and grabbed the clipped board at her feet. As he waited for the girl to finish her game, Bai Qi was reading her data. Seeing that she was in a good condition made him feel at ease.
After a while, Zhang Li Xue put down her phone and turned to Bai QI. “Doctor Bai, why are you here?”
“I came to visit you.” He smiled. “How are you feeling?”
“Mmm... I think I’m healthy enough to leave the hospital. But they insisted to let me stay for another night.” Zhang Li Xue let out a sigh.
“There’s no harm in staying another night. You should take this chance to recover properly.”
Zhang Li Xue thought that she was about to die from boredom.
“That’s right. Why are you alone? Aren’t your family with you?”
“My mother went back home to rest. Later, my brother would come over,” Zhang Li Xue said. “Actually, I think I can manage without having someone to accompany me.”
Bai Qi chuckled. He wondered if she would be saying the same thing when she have to stay alone in the ward at night.
“If you are bored, you can take a walk around the hospital’s garden. It’s good to have a little bit of fresh air.”
Zhang Li Xue’s phone rang at this time. She glanced at the caller ID and held up her hand. “I’ll pick up this phone call.”
Bai Qi nodded. He was about to put down the clipped board back at its place when he heard the familiar name.
“Brother Zhen Yu?” Zhang Li Xue spoke.
A deep frown appeared on his face. That was a name that he had not heard in twenty years. He had not thought that the two of them would still be in contact.
The way she called his name let him know that they were quite close.
Bai Qi could not help but feel uncomfortable. His heart felt a little stuffy.
He did not know what they were talking about, but even so, Bai Qi found that he could not leave the room. His legs refused to move an inch.
As he stood at the side, Bai Qi pretended to study the records on her file as he tried to eavesdrop on her conversation.
“I’m sorry. But I can’t go this time,” Zhang Li Xue spoke. “I have some other plan. Uh-huh. Then, let’s meet again later.”
Zhang Li Xue ended the call and was surprised to find that the young doctor was still around. Seeing the way he was frowning as he studied her reports made her wonder if there was something wrong with her body.
“Doctor Bai?”
Her voice snapped him out of his thought.
“Is there something wrong with my health?”
“No.” Bai Qi let out a cough. “I thought that the nurse’s handwriting was a little hard to read.”
“Really?” Zhang Li Xue looked at him in surprise. “I thought that everyone who was working in the hospital was supposed to understand each other’s handwriting. The other day, Uncle Qi Zheng scribbled something on a paper and let me hand it over to the pharmacist. I was surprised to see that the pharmacist would understand that words. Let me tell you. Even my writing as three years old is better than my uncle’s handwriting.”
Bai Qi smiled. He found that the chattery Zhang Li Xue was very adorable. Her voice was also very nice to listen to.
Someone knocked on the door as Zhang Li Xue continued to tell him more experiences about a doctor’s handwriting.
As the door was pushed open, Zhang Yi Hai appeared with the triplets behind him.
Seeing that there was someone in the room made Zhang Yi Hai frown. However, noticing that the doctor was holding a clipped board in his hand made him feel more at ease.
Then, he realized that this person was the doctor under his Uncle Qi Zheng. Swiftly, Zhang Yi Hai lowered his guard. He gave a nod to Bai Qi as a form of greetings.
“Why are you guys here as well?” Zhang Li Xue asked as the triplets entered.
“We come over after our shift ended,” the eldest, Wei Zi Ming spoke. “Sister, we were worried when we heard that you were hospitalized.”
“That’s right, Mom said she’s going to visit you tomorrow,” the youngest, Wei Zi Qian said.
“Tell your mother not to come. I’m going to be discharged tomorrow. Just let her visit me at home,” Zhang Li Xue said.
Seeing that the room was full of people, Bai Qi put down the clipped board in its place.
“Ah, Doctor Bai, thank you.” Zhang Li Xue said. She glanced at the triplets and spoke, “Right. Let me introduce to you. They are my cousins. My aunt gave birth to triplets. You guys, say hello to Doctor Bai. He’s your Uncle Qi Zheng’s student.”
The triplets obediently greeted the young doctor.
Bai Qi could not help but to shoot a few more glances at the triplets.
He did not expect that the nice aunt who had helped him previously had given birth to triplets.
“I should get going first,” Bai Qi said. “Miss Zhang, rest well.”
