Chapter 40 - Leaving Home
The horrid sight of Blair\'s death and the state of his dead body had caused everyone to freeze in shock. And, they didn\'t dare approach the beast and become prey themselves. But now that the beast was gone…
Bret and Verona ran to Blair. Or what was left of him now. Dant also followed.
Both of them were in tears. This child. They were always together in thick and thin ever since they came to this world. This child was so brave. He never let his weaknesses come his way and always helped others whenever he could. There inability to do anything to save the child caused pity and guilt to consume them.
Were they so weak and helpless that they couldn\'t even save a child?
Were they so useless in this world?
What wrong had the child did to die such a horrible death?
Even his dead body was not left intact With teeth marks on it and a head missing. None of the Blair that they knew could be identified from it.
Dant sighed but this sigh wasn\'t a sigh of pain rather it was a sigh of relief. He felt good that at least he was lucky for no one noticed his exchange with Blair. Technically he was the murderer here as he pushed the child into death.
The realization that he might lose his wife caused even his eyes to turn moist. But, someone might have mistook him for crying for Blair. He merged well in the otherwise sorrowful atmosphere.
\'Did that man notice me killing Blair?\' he asked himself.
He doesn\'t know. On one side he hopes that he did while on the other hand, he wasn\'t sure how much he should trust Klautz especially after he refused to help him save his wife. But one thing is certain, if not for Klautz this group would have been wiped out by now.
\'What would have happened if I didn\'t sacrifice Blair? Would Klautz have never joined the fray? Would I have to kill Verona like this too for him to make his appearance?\' he asked himself. But his questions remained unanswered for now.
Meanwhile, Kristie who was detached from the group came back. What greeted him was a bloody carcass with no head and sharp tooth marks implanted on it. Two of his friend\'s were blood-stained holding onto it as they cried. They made no sound, they cried in utter silence. From time to time they took deep breaths and that was that. The fear and guilt that they felt gave them such a shock that they weren\'t able to cry out aloud.
From the clothes, it was easy enough for Kristie to understand who\'s the dead carcass was.
"Why?" he whispered.
Kristie was the only one who had missed the event of Blair being eaten. He was mostly attacking the beast from behind and hadn\'t used his brain enough to figure out why the beast had stopped all of a sudden.
"When? How?"
He took a step back as he was more and more shaken with shock. His face was blank with no idea how such an event had transpired. He had already lost a friend before and now this?
He fell to his knees as his legs gave away. He didn\'t even have the strength to stand any more. All he could do was stare motionlessly at the boy.
How long had he known the boy? Probably not much longer. But does that mean their attachment to him was weak? They had seen many deaths since they came to this world. Now the thought of someone dying doesn\'t faze them as much as before. But does the same apply to people who were close to them? It doesn\'t!
"Ah, Blair… foolish Blair why did you have to die," Kristie said as he sobbed heavily. His voice was the only one among the room that could be heard out aloud. And he was also probably the closest friend of Blair when he was alive.
"How can we play tag again if you leave us?"
Verona and Bret were not in much of a good condition either. Every word of sorrow which Kristie spoke was like an arrow that directly pierced their hearts and touched their souls! They felt his words, his emotions as if they were their own words stolen from their lips.
Their lips twitched as if to declare that they wanted to complain too, but nothing left their mouths. This event had moved their very core!
"We should have never come here," Kristie lamented as he regretted their past decisions.
[Flashback]
"Phew! Today finally you people chose to tag along for this," Dant said.
"Well, it is dangerous… that\'s why we were against it in the first place!" Bret revolted.
"Yeah, so you saw Nah what that resulted in? The beasts attacking that temple are getting stronger by the day. If we do not find another safe place we are not likely to survive."
Unlike Klautz\'s group who had got their hands on some fine treasures and demonic classes, their group was never able to get those. With their weak E rank weapons, how could they fend off against the monsters that were rising in difficulty by the day?
"Fine you are right, we agree! We should have listened to you sooner."
"Haha, at least you did before we fell into some major trouble."
Dant and Bret were arguing with each other while Blair squeaked in between. Meanwhile, Verona was laughing at their stupid but cute argument.
[Congratulations! You are the first person to find the trial of control!]
[Wisdom +1]
[You have entered the trial of control. Would you like to participate in the trial? (yes/no)]
Verona squirmed in surprise while Kristie shout out aloud.
"Trial of Control? What the heck is that?"
