She asked in a careful manner and there were a lot of emotions in her eyes.
Huang He stretched his legs casually and did not turn his head to look at her.
“Give him a call.”
Tian Danyue gave a frown. “Is it suitable for me to tell him?”
Huang He turned to her without much expression. “What’s not suitable about it? You can tell him a lot of things but you couldn’t tell him this trivial matter?”
Tian Danyue was immediately floored.
Firstly, San’er getting caught was not a small matter.
And what did he mean by “you can tell him a lot of things”?
What did he know?
It was suddenly quiet again.
Tian Danyue started to feel that her back was sweating as she stared at Huang He.
Outside the window, it was snowing all over. His face seemed pale and distant against the outside scenery.
His eyes felt sharp; unemotional and unfeeling like a knife. It was as though he had never been close to her at all.
“You, seemed like you’re really unhappy.” Tian Danyue revealed a reluctant smile as she tried to search for a topic.
“Should I be happy?” Huang He’s voice sounded cold.
“...”
He didn’t show much emotion.
In fact, he didn’t seem happy or unhappy at all.
Tian Danyue thought for a moment and asked in a soft tone. “You deliberately sent San’er out of the car?”
Huang He seemed grim. “What do you think? Do you think I have the power to send him out, make him meet someone that he knew, and then make the police catch the two of them?”
Tian Danyue didn’t know how to continue the topic. Her gaze met with Huang He’s gaze in mid-air but it was not long before she was defeated.
“Fine, I’ll give Brother Ying a call to let him know what happened.”
Making the phone call was a must since San’er was caught.
Huang He did not object to that.
An Ying picked up the call in no time.
He had learnt of what happened earlier as well so he did not sound surprised at all.
“I’ve learnt about it just now.”
“Oh.” Tian Danyue glanced over at Huang He and her voice sounded grim and serious. “Brother Ying, we should be quite safe as the police didn’t come after us. Now that San’er got caught, where should we head to for the delivery of goods?”
The previous arrangement was that San’er would receive news and relay the message to them.
That meant that for this delivery mission, Huang He had to depend on San’er as he was the middleman responsible to convey the messages to them.
An Ying instructed, “Just send it to the place you stayed last night.”
As An Ying’s voice sounded displeased, Tian Danyue looked up at Huang He again and tried to explain hesitatingly. “Brother Ying, what happened earlier was an accident... San’er met a familiar face the moment he got off the car...”
“That person is Ah Fei.” It was now evident that An Ying knew more details than her.
There was a short pause before An Ying sighed in a heavy-hearted tone. “Ah Fei was bringing another batch of goods to the Capital and got found out by the police. I believe it’s because of Cui Jiaying.”
Tian Danyue was sitting near Huang He and as it was very quiet inside the car, he was able to hear what Brother Ying had told Tian Danyue over the phone.
He suddenly turned his head. “Another batch of goods?”
Huang He let out a sneer and spoke rather loudly. “Brother Ying, you don’t trust me, right?”
An Ying also heard what Huang He had said. After a short pause, he said, “Danyue, pass the phone to Huang He!”
“Mm.” Tian Danyue handed her mobile phone to him without saying a word.
Huang He took it quietly but he didn’t talk.
An Ying was also quiet for a while before he puffed a bitter sigh.
“It’s not that I don’t trust you. It’s because Operation Heaven’s Wrath is too important. We can’t afford to make mistakes... I also need a Plan B in case anything happens, you agree with me?”
“Right.” Huang He continued with a sneer. “So, how would the few packets of washing powder in the trunk help?”
“...”
There was a long silence, An Ying didn’t say anything.
Same for Tian Danyue as well.
Now that Huang He directly laid all the cards on the table...
They were welcomed with a wave of awkwardness...
The corners of Huang He’s lips quirked up coldly as he swept a glance at Tian Danyue’s ashen face. “Brother Ying, it’s alright that you don’t trust me. If you’re unwilling to take me in, I can find someone else for work or I can even find a way out and do this by myself. You could have told me clearly and I won’t give you trouble as I can understand your concerns... But what you’ve done, this doesn’t feel right to me. You made use of someone close to me that I feel like I’m a fool, how would you feel if you were me?”
Tian Danyue’s eyes became completely cold, submerged in guilt.
An Ying waited for two seconds but he didn’t hear Tian Danyue’s voice. “Did Danyue tell you about this?”
Huang He’s line of sight fell on Tian Danyue’s ashen face where he saw that fright had overtaken her expression.
She was scared.
She was worried that he would say that she did, although she didn’t.
Huang He sneered as he looked away. “She didn’t tell me anything. It’s San’er and Shi Bao who told me about this! These two men are not only incapable, but they suck at acting too. Best of all, they have your trust! Hurhurhur...”
He let out a peal of laughter full of irony.
An Ying felt relieved. “Brother, this issue is not as serious as you think.” persuaded An Ying, “I didn’t completely take in Danyue’s words as well. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be able to get out of Xi City... What do you think? I’m capable of doing this.”
“Hurhur! I do believe that Brother Ying is capable of doing this. Hence, I won’t say anything more. Later when we arrived in the Capital, I won’t ever come and trouble you again. I believe that with my capability and contacts, I can still find someone who is willing to offer me a livelihood. It doesn’t have to be you, Brother Ying.”
An Ying remained quiet for a while.
Hmph! Huang He directly passed the phone back to Tian Danyue.
Tian Danyue took it and said, “Hello.”
An Ying seemed to have said something over the phone as she passed the phone back to him.
“Brother Ying wanted to talk to you.”
The moment Huang He took the phone, he heard An Ying’s deep tone of voice.
“When you arrived in the Capital, you need to contact me right away. Operation Heaven’s Wrath wouldn’t be complete without the Capital. Huang He, your real mission will start then!”
Wouldn’t be complete without the Capital?
Huang He ruminated over his words. “You told me that you won’t use people that you don’t trust. I totally agree with that, I really do. If you do have any tiny speck of doubt in me, I would have to tell you that you should find someone else for the job. I do have a temper too. I don’t want to be played around like this...”
“There will be no suspicions,” reiterated An Ying, “not even the slightest bit.”
...
Silence prevailed in the car once again.
Tian Danyue’s heart was drumming so wildly with unease as if it was about to jump out of her throat.
She was nervous and her palms became clammy, yet she was unable to say anything.
Huang He was actually looking at her and he smiled coldly. “Is this what you meant by repaying your gratitude to me? Tian Danyue, I guess I can’t take this kind of repayment.”
Tian Danyue lowered her eyelids. “You don’t trust me anymore?”
Huang He’s gaze landed on her face. “Can I trust you?” he sneered.
Tian Danyue kept silent for a moment as she fiddled with her fingers.
“Brother Ying asked me that day,” she told him in a soft voice, “about the lunch appointment we were supposed to have the other day.”
Huang He gave her a sidelong glance as he scrutinized her quietly.
Tian Danyue: “On that day, Brother Ying had wanted to come. But someone was robbed downstairs at the shopping mall. A woman’s phone was snatched and many police officers were there. Because of that, Brother Ying was unable to come. You already know that he’s a really cautious person. Prior to us reaching the restaurant, he had already sent his people to check the surroundings. They saw you and Fang Yuanyuan entering the restroom one after another...”
