Chapter 506 - Don’t Want to Die
Not as conspicuous huh...
Xiang Wan kept quiet.
When a human becomes a corpse, it turns into an object, a thing, nothing but matter.
She did not ask Feng Kui anymore questions.
He looked blank and dull, with a kind of desperate fear.
While they were digging up the parts of the corpse, they seemed to be saying something but as the winds got stronger, she couldn’t make out their words. Her face started to feel painful due to the strong winds. She tried to cover her face with her muffler and didn’t continue looking at the pit. In fact, after having been in contact with the detective’s work for months, she was no longer as “fragile” as what Bai Muchuan had thought.
She might be able to watch the whole process calmly if she tried hard to suppress the feeling of nausea.
But Bai Muchuan kept on hinting her to move back with his eyes. There was worry and concern in his gaze.
She felt that this was actually a good thing.
In Bai Muchuan’s heart, she was a woman.
A woman that he wanted to take care of.
If he had treated her like how they treated Mei Xin, she would definitely be more uneasy and troubled.
...
Many hands make light work.
The victim’s body parts and organs were excavated one by one and placed inside individual corpse bags, numbered by Mei Xin.
The girl had just died a few days ago in such cold weather. Hence, the decay of the corpse was not as serious. After they dug out all of the human parts in the pit, Mei Xin did a check and nodded at Bai Muchuan.
“That’s all for the day! We’ll piece them back together in office!”
Piece together.
A person.
Piece together a corpse that was dismembered.
Xiang Wan felt slightly bitter and distressed as she looked at the pit that the corpse had been buried in.
The police officers were taking videos and pictures, and collecting relevant objects from the scene.
When they finished, they filled the pit together with the unmelted snow.
It was still snowing when they left the scene.
The atmosphere felt sorrowful.
The police officers, the police dog, the main suspect as well as the corpse of the girl in parts.
Step by step, they made their way to the police cars they parked by the road in the snowy weather.
...
Bai Muchuan was walking behind the group of officers. He squeezed Xiang Wan’s hand as she had bundled herself up like a dumpling with her large-sized muffler. “Are you alright?”
“I’m fine.” Xiang Wan smiled at him.
“You like to pretend that you’re strong.”
He sounded and looked so certain that Xiang Wan let out a chortle.
“Hur, you know me so well?”
Bai Muchuan remained quiet for a while and held her hand tightly. “I thought I know you very well in the past. The you now is getting harder to understand. Hmph!”
That snort of his was filled with powerlessness toward her.
What happened last night should be something that the Xiang Wan he knew would not have done.
Xiang Wan let out a chuckle and winked at Bai Muchuan mischievously as everyone was walking in front of them. The next moment, she drew close to him, planted a kiss on his lips, leaned on his chest and wrapped her arms around his waist.
“I want to become a woman that you don’t understand,” she remarked, somewhat sweetly and somewhat seriously, “This way, you won’t ever get sick of me.”
A smile flashed past Bai Muchuan’s face, and he patted her head. “You silly!”
“This is called smart, understand?”
Bai Muchuan adjusted her muffler to make sure she was not as cold as he looked at her.
“Let’s go!”
“Mm, I don’t want to cover my head with the muffler now. I’m starting to feel hot.”
“One moment you’re cold, the next moment you feel hot!
“You’re always so wilful!”
Xiang Wan let out a chuckle, removed the muffler from her head and tied it around her neck.
Her clothes were flapping in the cold wind. Her long hair was also fluttering about. She held Bai Muchuan’s hand as they walked back to the police car through the snow...
...
Serious Crime Division One.
The drug test on Wang Xinggui was out. Cheng Zheng personally led the Forensics Team to conduct the test.
The drug contents inside her stomach were found to be identical to the three previous cases where the perpetrators died, with negligible differences in the amount.
Wang Xinggui was found to be alright besides the scalds and burns on her hands. As expected, she did not know how and when she consumed the drug, as well as where the drug had came from. However, she admitted that she and the deceased Feng Min, had assisted Feng Kui to bury the corpse of the girl.
With regards to the death of Feng Min, Wang Xinggui confessed that she and Feng Min had an argument and the latter wanted to use violence on her. She was furious and decided to bite his neck. Feng Min fell to the ground... where the back of his head hit the ground.
The question was answered perfectly.
However, Bai Muchuan was sneering instead.
“Feng Min’s brain injury was caused by a hit with an object. It was not caused by a fall.”
This was what the autopsy results showed.
He trusted Cheng Zheng’s judgement.
“How could you be hitting the back of Feng Min’s head with an object when you’re biting his neck at the same time?”
Wang Xinggui: “...”
She kept quiet.
She didn’t throw a fit this time.
However, she refused to talk to the detectives again.
Bai Muchuan looked at the woman lying on the hospital bed. “The murderer is Feng Kui, right?” he said casually.
...
This deduction was soon confirmed.
That night, Bai Muchuan interrogated Feng Kui in Serious Crime Division One.
Ever since Xiang Wan managed to make Feng Kui admit to the murder of the girl, he didn’t use a lot of time to consider and admitted that he had accidentally killed Feng Min. After the interrogation was complete, he even asked Bai Muchuan a question. “I didn’t have any intention to kill them. My mom’s case was considered justifiable defense, right? He was the one who used violence first and we accidentally killed him. For such cases... we won’t get a death sentence, right?”
He didn’t seem to be willing to address Feng Min as his dad.
Most of the time, he would use “him”.
Xiang Wan looked at his anxious but hopeful eyes which was full of trust.
“The law will surely give you a fair and just judgment!” she sighed. “Don’t worry about it.”
“Orh...”
Feng Kui looked at her face for a moment before he lowering his head slowly.
“I don’t want to die.”
He did not want to die.
Nobody wanted to die.
...
It was nighttime, and everyone was working overtime on the case.
The girl who was abducted and sold to Feng Kui’s family and eventually got raped and killed. She did not have any identification documents on her and her corpse was dismembered and cut up. According to Feng Kui, when Feng Min brought the girl back, there wasn’t any identification documents on her. They did not even know her name as well. When they asked the girl, she didn’t reply to them either... At that time, both Feng Kui and his mom had guessed that the girl might have a mental condition. Later on, Feng Min burnt all of her belongings. That piece of paper must have dropped accidentally and was found by Xiang Wan.
Her identity was unknown.
They couldn’t find a match using her DNA in their database.
That night, the police issued a notice for identification of the unknown corpse.
At the same time, the information was sent to every unit in the system, asking for their assistance in the search for the identity of the corpse.
It was 11 o’clock at night. Xiang Wan was sitting in her office, writing her analysis for the latest case. Somehow, she felt that the kidnapping of the girl was not so simple. Nonetheless, there was no conclusive evidence to support her thoughts. While she was thinking, a notification from QQ came in.
Mei Xin suddenly sent a message to her.
“The latest autopsy indicates that there are countless abuse wounds on the body. Captain Cheng asked you if you would like to come up and have a look?”
