Chapter 27: Lightning
Spark Bolt: A quick burst of electrical energy that can stun opponents.
Thunderclap: Creates a loud noise and a bright flash to disorient enemies.
Static Shield: Forms a protective barrier of static electricity around the caster.
Chain Lightning: Releases a bolt that can jump between multiple targets.
Electro-Step: Allows the caster to move swiftly by harnessing electrical currents.
Rejuvenating Surge: Coats the caster\'s body in a gentle electrical field, speeding up stamina and mana recovery over time.
As Mortem detailed the intricacies of each spell, Canna listened intently, absorbing the knowledge eagerly.
Out of all the basic lightning spells Mortem showcased, the one that resonated most with him was the Rejuvenating Surge. Unlike the others, this spell coated his body in a gentle electrical field, offering not just defensive or offensive capabilities but also practical utility.
As Mortem explained its benefits, Canna grew fascinated with the spell: it promised faster stamina recovery during intense battles and quicker restoration of mana, enabling him to cast spells more frequently. The versatility of the Rejuvenating Surge made it an invaluable asset in Canna\'s eyes, provided he mastered the skill to wield it effectively.
With that said, Canna decided to prioritize learning the Rejuvenating Surge spell first. He sat in a lotus position, following Mortem\'s instructions attentively as he guided him through the intricacies of channeling and harnessing electrical energy for the spell.
Hours passed with focused dedication. Canna concentrated deeply, trying to summon the Rejuvenating Surge as Mortem had demonstrated. However, after two painstaking hours of intense mental effort and precise gestures, there was still no spark of electricity around him.
Frustration threatened to cloud Canna\'s mind, but Mortem\'s calm voice broke through the disappointment. "Patience and persistence, Master," he reassured. "Mastery of such spells takes time and practice. You\'re on the right path."
Determined not to give up, Canna took a deep breath and resumed his meditation, ready to continue his journey toward mastering the spell.
After three more grueling hours had passed, Canna finally succeeded in summoning the "Rejuvenating Surge" spell. At first, the sensation was a mere tickle, like a feather brushing against his skin. He stood up slowly, feeling the energy coursing through his veins. Lightning crackled around him, creating a shimmering aura of power and vitality.
He glanced at his reflection as he summoned a water mirror, marveling at the electric arcs dancing across his skin. Each spark was a testament to his perseverance and dedication. The room, once filled with his frustrated sighs, now buzzed with the hum of magical energy.
Canna couldn\'t help but smile, a wide grin spreading across his face. The exhaustion from hours of practice melted away, replaced by a profound sense of accomplishment. Every moment spent, every failed attempt, and every ounce of concentration had led to this triumphant moment.
He flexed his fingers, watching as tiny bolts of lightning obeyed his command. The spell not only rejuvenated his body but also filled him with an exhilarating sense of power. For the first time, he felt like he couldn\'t do it, it felt as if he was just wasting his time. The "Rejuvenating Surge" was more than just a spell; it was a symbol of his growth and potential.
The day had been long and arduous, but the reward was worth every second.
Unfortunately, Canna couldn\'t relish the feeling for long. The exhausting effort of summoning the spell had sapped much of his energy, and the dungeon\'s cold, damp air offered little comfort.
A gnawing hunger reminded him that it was time to replenish his strength with some mana-infused meat.
Mortem had already started grilling some dungeon monster meat. As the first pieces finished cooking, he offered them to his master. As Canna chewed the flavorless, tough meat, the subtle hum of magic began to revitalize him. Each bite sent waves of warmth and energy through his body, restoring the mana he had expended from training.
Canna kept the Rejuvenating Surge spell active while he ate to replenish his mana reserves more quickly. However, now that it was time for weapons training with Vorgrim, he reluctantly turned it off. He wasn\'t confident in his ability to maintain the spell while also focusing on Vorgrim\'s instructions, as part of his mind needed to remain engaged to keep the spell active.
Canna\'s heart swelled with pride as he leveled up his sword mastery skill to level 3. The countless hours of rigorous training were finally paying off. Vorgrim, his ever-stoic mentor, nodded approvingly. "Well done, my liege," he said. "You\'ve proven yourself with the sword. Now it\'s time to expand your expertise."
Canna looked expectantly at Vorgrim. "What weapon will I be training with next Vorgrim?" he asked eagerly.
"For now, my liege, I will let you decide. To obtain the \'Weapon Mastery\' skill, you need to reach level 3 proficiency with at least seven different weapons. So, choose any weapon, and we can begin your training with it.
Canna surveyed the assortment of weapons scattered across the ground. There were spears, axes, bows, daggers, maces, and many more to choose from. Each weapon held its own unique potential and challenge. He took a moment to ponder his options, considering the strengths and weaknesses of each.
His gaze lingered on the daggers. They were the first weapons he had ever trained with, and he had always appreciated their convenience. Unlike the larger, more cumbersome swords and spears, daggers could be easily concealed, making them perfect for stealth and quick attacks. He remembered how their compact size and versatility had often given him an edge in tight situations.
After a moment of contemplation, Canna decided to stick with the daggers. He felt a sense of familiarity and confidence holding them again. This was the weapon he wanted to improve on first. With the daggers, he could refine his skills in agility and precision, crucial traits for a well-rounded warrior.
He picked up a pair of finely crafted daggers, feeling their balanced weight in his hands. These daggers were a significant upgrade from his old ones. As he swung them experimentally, they felt as light as a feather, their superior craftsmanship evident in every movement.
Looking up at Vorgrim, curiosity filled his eyes as he wondered how he could achieve the dagger mastery skill with these new weapons.
"Good choice, my liege," Vorgrim stated. "To be honest, training with daggers is much harder than with a sword. But before I explain why, I\'ll tell you what must be done to achieve dagger mastery. Just like before, we will have to train using unconventional methods."
