Chapter 130: 051 Young Master Jiang Comes Out to Save Someone (Part 2)_1

Ji Mulan had not seen Bai Lian for over two years, and upon seeing her now, she felt a sense of unreality.

She was so different from her memory.

Her daughter came in wearing a white long dress, with a light green belt slightly cinching her waist, each step as delicate as orchids.

Holding a smartphone in her hand and with a slight air of indolence, the booth was brightly lit, and at a glance, her pitch-black eyes resembled those stained by an ink brush, reflecting a sky full of stars.

The man was also startled, having always thought from Ji Mulan’s description that her daughter was a badly behaved young girl.

He hadn’t expected her to seem so quiet.

And there was Ji Shaojun, who he originally thought would be somewhat nervous growing up in Xiangcheng.

But he didn’t expect him to be so confident and at ease.

The man stood up, surprised yet politely greeting Ji Shaojun. He wore glasses, had a distinct profile, and it was clear he was well-maintained, his figure not at all out of shape despite being close to middle age, “Hello, my name is Xu En, I met Mu Lan at a maritime exhibition.”

He was cultured, dignified, and courteously modest.

It was obvious he came from a good family and upbringing; his manner was nothing like the piercing scrutiny of the Ren Family.

Ji Shaojun glanced at Xu En, his expression much improved, and shook hands with him, “I am her brother, Ji Shaojun.”

They sat down.

Bai Lian looked at Ji Mulan and remained silent.

“Why are you always playing with your smartphone?” Ji Mulan, dressed in a finely tailored dress with a shawl draped over her shoulders, squinted her shapely eyes.

She watched Bai Lian fiddling with her smartphone, her gaze growing deep.

Bai Lian paused for a moment.

She looked up at Ji Mulan again.

And put away her phone.

“Ji Mulan,” Ji Shaojun lifted his gaze.

Ji Mulan then withdrew her own and, without looking at Bai Lian, said to Ji Shaojun, “I will take her to Jiangjing, Xu En has found her an international private school. Although most of it is science-based, there are arts courses too, and one can go directly to a foreign university after graduation.”

This was not a discussion.

It was a notification.

Before Ji Shaojun could speak, Bai Lian with her eyes lowered and voice unhurried, said, “I won’t go.”

Ji Mulan was about to get angry, but glanced at Xu En and feared he would see her as a joke.

So she stood up abruptly, glowering at Bai Lian, “Come outside with me.”

Bai Lian looked up, her long and powerful hands pressing against the table as she stood.

Ji Shaojun wanted to follow but was deterred by a look from Bai Lian, and he hesitated.

Across the table, Xu En smiled and said, “Mr. Ji, let the mother and daughter talk. You tell me about Mu Lan’s childhood…”

After a moment’s hesitation, Ji Shaojun did not follow them out.

He knew from earlier conversations with Ji Mulan that Xu En was from Jiangjing.

He also knew that Bai Lian would have a better future if she went to Jiangjing.

On the corridor.

Ji Mulan, in her elegant high heels, was barely taller than Bai Lian, “Do you know how much effort it took to get you into that school? Your uncle said you’ve become more obedient. From now on, don’t be so troublesome. The Xu Family’s rules are much stricter than the Bai Family’s, just so you know…”

Two years had passed, and facing Bai Lian again, Ji Mulan’s heart was still troubled.

The Bai Family expelling Bai Lian was undoubtedly a slap in her face.

She couldn’t swallow this indignity.

“Am I just an object to you?” Bai Lian turned off her smartphone and spoke up.

She just looked at Ji Mulan, her almond-shaped eyes dark and deep, devoid of any other emotion.

“What do you mean?” Ji Mulan looked at Bai Lian, her chest heaving with emotion, “Am I not doing this for your own good? How much have I sacrificed for you? I hired the best tutors, got you into the best classes…”

Bai Lian listened silently to her finish.

She did not feel much about everything Ji Mulan said.

“Am I just a tool for you to show off?” Bai Lian said softly, “Two years, it took two years for you to come back and see me. I was alone at the Bai Family, dealing with Bai Qiming, Bai Shaoqi, Bai Shaoke. If you wanted what’s best for me, why didn’t you take me away with you?”

Ji Mulan was taken aback, then quickly recovered, frowning, “You staying at the Bai Family was the way for you to receive the best education, I was thinking of your best interests.”

“It doesn’t matter now. My household registration is with my grandfather, so, you don’t have to worry about my future life,” Bai Lian nodded politely to Ji Mulan, walked a few steps, then stopped, “Oh, and one more thing—”

She turned back, a loose smile on her lips, “Go visit grandfather sometime.”

With that, Bai Lian pulled out her smartphone, sent Ji Shaojun a message, and left the Wanhe Building.

She felt little affection for Ji Mulan.
