Chapter 319
“Shit!” Xu Shu had been too tired. His sword that should have fatally wound Zhang Fei had been knocked away. Liu Bei’s siege did not stop and exhausted Xu Shu. Fighting against Zhang Fei was his limit.
“Die!” One of Liu Bei’s men saw Xu Shu exhausted and tried to kill him. Although exhausted, Xu Shu still had his sword. He thrust it into the body of the soldier, twisted its handle and then pulled it out.
“Hmph. You still have enough strength to pick up your sword? Let me send you off now!” Zhang Fei snorted. He noticed that the sky was turning dark. If it turned any darker, they may not be able to capture Shouchun. On top of that, he had already guaranteed the capture of Shouchun. “Prepare to die!”
“You want to kill me? Keep dreaming!” Xu Shu was not a person who would just admit defeat. He gritted his teeth and did battle with Zhang Fei again. However, he was truly too exhausted. Zhang Fei soon sent Xu Shu’s sword flying, disarming him.
“I will give you another chance! Come back with me and serve my brother. I will let you keep your life!” Zhang Fei demanded. Xu Shu no longer had any leeway to fight back.
“Haha. I, Xu Shu, am not a particularly great person but I still have a sense of justice. It would be humiliating to work for your hypocrite of a brother. Death? If I was afraid of death, I wouldn’t be here on the walls!” Xu Shu spat.
“It seems you would not be satisfied unless you die! Since you refuse to surrender, I will take your head and claim my reward from Brother!” Zhang Fei said as he lifted his spear. He then asked, “Do you have any last words? I will help to convey them as you are the Military Advisor’s old friend!”
“Last words? Hmph. I, Xu Shu do not need any last words! I simply regret not being able to see the day Milord ascends the throne!” Xu Shu’s body was exhausted but his spirit was still burning.
“Ascend the throne? That False King? Enough jokes! Are you trying to make me laugh to death? My brother have already taken Yangzhou. He would later attack Lujiang along with Sun Ce and Zhang Xiu! It is not only that False King. Even that Slave of Three Surnames is helpless!” Zhang Fei felt disdain. He does not know strategy but he was still able to repeat what Pang Tong and Liu Bei discussed at their camp. “Hmph. I have explained enough. It is time to send you on your way!” Zhang Fei was about to swing his weapon down onto Xu Shu’s head.
“Drop your weapon! Who dares to harm my Military Advisor!” An angry yell came from behind Zhang Fei. Zhang Fei turned around to see a white armored warrior charging towards him. Zhang Fei ignored the warrior and swung down his spear.
“Shit!” The white armored warrior saw that he was going to be too late. By the time he reached Zhang Fei, Xu Shu would be dead. He threw his spear forward. The spear cut through the air and flew straight towards Zhang Fei.
“What?” Zhang Fei suddenly felt a chill coming from behind him. From the corner of his eyes, he saw a spear flying straight towards his head. If he remained stubborn and continued to try and kill Xu Shu, he would have to receive the full force of the flying spear. Zhang Fei would be able to ignore this attack if it was thrown by a normal soldier. However, he was confident that the current attack would be able to pierce through his body. Zhang Fei did not want to die together with Xu Shu. No matter who he dealt with on those walls, his own life was still the number one priority. Zhang Fei did this knowing that Liu Bei would be able to with Shouchun the moment the Xu Shu was killed.
Although Zhang Fei wants to capture Shouchun, he was not willing to die in the process. This was why he chose to avoid the spear. To deal with the spear coming towards him, he moved his own Serpent Spear away from Xu Shu.
Xu Shu did not want to die. Naturally, he took this opportunity to distance himself away from Zhang Fei. The white armored warrior then grabbed Xu Shu and placed Xu Shu by his side.
“General Zilong? Didn’t I tell you not to climb up the city walls? You have more important things to do!” Xu Shu reprimanded Zhao Yun instead of thanking him even though he had just been saved. He knew that Shouchun would not last much longer. Zhao Yun’s mission was to bring all of Liu Mang’s works and blueprints away from Shouchun.
“Hurry up and let me down! Have you forgotten your orders? Do you not know the consequences of violating military orders?”
“Military Advisor. If you ask me to watch Shouchun fall without acting, then I am willing to bear that punishment!” Zhao Yun replied.
“Zilong?” Zhang Fei also finally noticed the identity of the man that arrived. He recognized this man as Zhao Yun, a man who once fought by his side.
“Yi De! No. It should be General Zhang!” Zhao Yun was a loyal man but his sense of righteousness made him draw a dividing line between Zhang Fei and himself.
