Chapter 20 - 20: The First Task?

Back at the hotel near F University, Finn Lewis couldn’t wait to ask, “Zero, what’s your suggestion? How can I find evidence against Robert Thomp?”

“I’m not here to come up with plans for you,” Zero replied without any change in its tone.

“Damn!” Finn rolled his eyes, soon quickly adding, “Zero, think about this. I am your first representative on Earth, right? Even if I’m not sure what you’re up to, at least I’m your front man, right? If someone tries to frame me, you should protect me, right?”

“Correct.”

“Ok, then. I can’t just sit back and get framed! I can strike back, right?” Finn quickly responded.

“What’s your plan?” Zero asked, ice-cold.

“Simple. Can you monitor Robert Thomp 24/7?” Finn immediately threw out his question.

“Yes!”

“Can you hack into computer networks?” Finn’s eyes lit up as he continued questioning.

“Yes, and stop asking me such basic questions. I’ve told you, on Earth, as you put it, I am omnipotent,” Zero emotionlessly responded.

“OK, so, almighty Zero, can you start monitoring Robert Thomp now? Also, help me gather all his incriminating information from the internet, preferably videos. Any problem?” asked Finn.

“No problem, but there’s a price: monitoring for one hour costs 2 credits.”

Finn: “…” He doesn’t even have a feather, where on earth is he going to get credits from?

“I can provide lending services, the interest rate for every 100 credits per month is 5 credits.” Zero casually responded.

“Damn, you can lend credits? Why didn’t you say so earlier?!” Finn nearly yelled. If he could borrow credits, why did he have to bother so much?

“The borrowed credits cannot be used for exchanging goods.” Zero added another comment for Finn.

Then what the hell is the point of borrowing?! Finn had the urge to drop dead. His dilemma grew, the credits could be borrowed, the interest rate wasn’t high, but if they were only borrowed to screw Robert Thomp, he had no idea when he could repay them. Finn started to wonder if he should wait until he had enough credits to do so. After all, Robert Thomp couldn’t go anywvhere.

After a long deliberation, Finn clenched his teeth in hate. He couldn’t wait for ten years to seek revenge as others might. Finn was made differently; he believed in an eye for an eye. Screw it!

“Alright, you help me monitor Robert Thomp! Whenever you find evidence of his crimes, let me know. Also, help me find several people,” Finn quickly requested.

“Okay. Whom do you want?” asked Zero immediately.

Finn quickly listed the names of several female students who might have been exploited by Robert Thomp. “All of them are from F University. Don’t find the wrong people,” Finn added.

“Don’t try to guess my logic with your logic,” Zero responded, disappearing immediately after.

Damn! Was that contempt? He must have been despised, right? Just when he was slightly annoyed, a thought struck him. With Zero working on the case, Finn didn’t believe that Robert Thomp could keep hiding. Those students were just afraid to come forward. If everyone who was victimized by Robert Thomp came forward.

He could suppress it if it was just one or two people, but how could he suppress so many? However, everyone has their own choices, so Finn didn’t want to comment more. For his senior, Finn understood that to a certain extent, she was also a volunteer. As for reporting the situation, it’s uncertain what kind of punishment Robert Thomp could receive based on the police.

Therefore, they still need to find other evidence. After handing the matter over to Zero, Finn finally started to seriously consider what he should do next. Undoubtedly, credits were the most important. Although he had some money in his hand, he bred his time to see the effects of money-making, especially after subtracting the cost of money-making from his tens of millions.

Although Finn could invest, not every investment could yield profits. All those venture capital firms worldwide, which one of them made money in the short term? Take G Company for instance, the venture capital that initially invested in G Company did make money, but how long did it take for them to start earning? G Company started by losing hundreds of thousands of Federal coins each year and went to losing billions every year!

Finn was sure that G Company’s profits were built on losing tens of thousands, hundreds of millions, and even billions of Federal coins each year. Even if Finn had found such a company to invest in, he wouldn’t have had the patience to wait that long, and he also didn’t have that much capital.

Wait for tasks? But he didn’t know when the task would show up! Finn had an unbearable headache. Isn’t there anything worse than seeing a massive cake in front of you that you can’t eat?

The next day, Finn got up from the hotel bed and, after freshening up, decided to go to school first without thinking much. Being at a bit of distance from F University, Finn merely chose to walk back as he had some time. In his three years of college, Finn was always busy, his free time was spent either working or thinking about his future.

Such leisure time was too scarce. Only when he walked did he realize that he wasn’t all that familiar with the road to F University.

There was a large job fair between the hotel and F University, which was always bustling every day. Finn had previously come here to find work, but the companies hiring here were more or less small businesses, scarcely any notable ones.

Just as Finn was reminiscing at the entrance of the job fair, Zero’s voice suddenly rang out: “You’ve got a new task, do you want to accept?”

“What? A task? Damn! Accept, accept, accept! Hurry up and accept,” Finn hesitated initially but soon realized what was going on. Thinking about the items he could exchange for credits with Zero, he couldn’t wait and responded immediately. His sudden shout drew weird looks from several passersby.

“Confirmed, task accepted,” Zero emotionlessly responded.

Finn swiftly took out his earphones and put them on, so he didn’t look crazy talking to himself.

“What’s the task?” Finn quickly lowered his voice to ask.

“Task: hiring a full-time female assistant. Requirements: appearance and figure no less than 80 points. Time: 2 hours 30 minutes. Reward for success: 100 credits, punishment for failure: unknown.”

Once the task was clearly stated, Finn was flabbergasted. “What the hell? Is this a task? Damn it, Zero, are you positive you didn’t make a mistake?” “You have 2 hours and 28 minutes left, ” Zero confirmed the time for Finn.

“What’s this ‘unknown punishment’? There is even a punishment on failure?” Pacing to the job fair, Finn asked in a hurry.

“Isn’t there a punishment when you fail a game task?” Zero retorted, “As for the failure punishment, that depends on your performance during the task. Don’t worry, it won’t harm your life.”

Upon hearing this, Finn was a bit amused.. Even if it didn’t affect his life, the punishment sounded quite terrifying, didn’t it?
