Chapter 221: No Resistance?

The scenery was dull and the journey uneventful.

Flying alone through this endless arid desert, the heavy plumes of smoke billowing from the volcanoes across the horizon were the only feature in this endless crimson sand dunes.

“Caw! Caw!” The Myna pointed at Grimm’s thinning blonde hair at the back of his head. “Your hair is thinning, Master. Seems that as you became an official sorcerer, you have chosen to leverage the life force by using your mental strength. Even though your body has received a large increase in potential, but you have also lost a higher level of control and enhancement over the natural forces.”

One of the prerequisites for advancing to Level 2 sorcerer was the ability to instantly elementalize the body. This would allow for instantaneous teleportation as a means to dodge physical attacks that were lethal.

In the past 10 years, Grimm had attempted to simulate elementalizing his hair growth. He merely simulated the power of elements into the shape of a hair as research for his next promotion. They were not physical elementalization of his real hair.

While he had achieved some success in doing so, there were just as many problems to solve.

For example, when Grimm had chosen to increase his constitution and mental strength simultaneously, his senses regarding the power of nature became noticeably weaker than an actual Elemental Wizard. Not only would this concern the Stigmata Sorcerer’s tower, it would also affect his future paths to promotions in many ways.

“Hmm.” Underneath the Mask of Truth, Grimm’s heterochromic eyes took a look at his thinning silky blond hair that was gradually dissipating into cosmic elements. He couldn’t help but let out a sigh.

The path toward being promoted to Level 2 sorcerer was equally tedious, and possibly even more challenging and extensive compared to studying Destructive Force.

...

Fifteen days later.

As Grimm sped across the monotonous desert of the Crimson Sun World to the ninth district of the Shadow Empire, the Myna suddenly let out a scream. ‘Caw! Caw! Look! There’s a group of Amonros over there.”

The Myna could see further than Grimm. This was because Grimm’s Mask of Truth didn’t have the eagle eye cast on it.

In the Crimson Sun World, all of the Enigmatic Amonros were actually Golden Amonros that were a little bit stronger. Hence this was not a cause for concern for Grimm. If it were ten years ago, Grimm would have to stalk the group from behind to determine the location of their secret lair before proceeding to destroy them all.

But now things were different. He would first assess his opponents’ strengths to determine if he could eliminate them without going out of the way.

With this in mind, bam! A lightning flashed beneath his legs. His body was projected twenty to thirty meters forward, leaving only a trace of shadow behind. With dimensional warp, he appeared at a hundred meters away. In an instant, a small sun that shone ever so brilliantly, even in the endless Crimson Sun Deserts, was born.

The small sun sped towards the isolated groups of Amonros and crushed them.

“Sorcerer! It’s the sorcerer, despicable sorcerer! Damn! Run away!” A few of the terrified Amonro shouted.

This was a group of Golden Amonros. Their levels at best were only of the Shadow Legion. They had possibly just gained their flight ability very recently. How could they ever withstand the onslaught of a Dark Sorcerer such as Grimm?

In just a few moments, one by one, the Amonros dropped onto the desert’s dunes and turned into lifeless bodies. Their bodies would forever remain in this endless red desert.

Underneath the Mask of Truth, Grimm lightly glanced over at the body of the last Amonro that he had slain. Through the boiling and distorting heat wave, Grimm’s eyes were exceptionally calm, as if nothing had happened. Once again, he continued his journey toward the ninth region of the Shadow Empire.

The Demon-Hunter had overwhelming advantages over the Amonros when it came to battles in the Crimson Sun World.

It wasn’t because Crimson Sun World had increased the powers of the Demon Hunters. Instead, it was because the demon hunters had been traversing across foreign worlds for a long time. Their bodies had adapted to various types of extreme environment. In contrast, the enclosed creatures of this small world had not fully adapted even to their own world.

This was also one of the sorcerer civilization’s edges.

...

A month later.

This particular volcano had no dark plumes coming out—Grimm couldn’t find anything out of the ordinary, no matter how he looked.

Therefore, Grimm helplessly shook his head, chiding himself for being overly sensitive and for wasting close to two days here.

Summoning the force of nature, Grimm took off along the volcanic crater and continued his journey to the ninth region of the Shadow Empire.

...

Two months later.

Grimm had finally arrived at the ninth region of the Shadow Empire. The mid-level region wasn’t like any of the previous tiny and micro-regions which took only a few hourglasses up to one or two days to travel through.

After flying for a whole fortnight, Grimm was shocked to see a legion of Bright Sorcerer Demon Hunters that flew in from afar.

There were almost a hundred of Bright Sorcerers in the legion, not a small squad. Didn’t they mention... that all the Bright Sorcerers were sent out to lay siege upon the shadow land?

Could it be that the Second Shadow Continent, one of the world’s three largest shadow lands, had been successfully conquered by the Demon Hunter?

Not mentioning Grimm’s surprise, after a distant squadron of Bright Sorcerers took notice of the lone Dark Sorcerer, two Bright Sorcerers separated from the squad flew toward him. The remaining Bright Sorcerers continued on their march in an orderly formation.

The two Bright Sorcerers approached Grimm.

“Greetings, Dark Sorcerer. Were you the Dark Sorcerer who was commandeered to execute an infiltration and sabotage mission ten years ago?” The two sorcerers addressed Grimm in their sorcerer’s customary etiquette.

The sorcerer’s etiquettes were simple but necessary. It allowed other sorcerers to identify themselves through their elemental ripples.

This was even more important when Dark and Bright Sorcerers came across each other.

The Bright Sorcerer who spoke to Grimm wore a tall, pointed hat and was dressed in a pale gray sorcerer’s robe. Above each side of his ears were a pair of curved antelope horns, extending some half-meter up in the air. He wore a pair of round-framed shades. His skin was slightly wrinkled, giving off an image of a wise male sorcerer.

“That is correct. I have been patrolling the borders of the ninth region of the Shadow Empire in Crimson Sun World, destroying any enemy forces that I came across for the last decade.”

Grimm replied truthfully after he responded with his part of sorcerer’s etiquette.

The two sorcerers looked at each other. One could see how shocked and stunned they were. For the average Bright Sorcerers, infiltrating behind enemy’s lines alone for ten years was an unbelievably arduous mission.

The reason being that a lot of the Bright Sorcerer’s spells required a few, tens, or even hundreds of sorcerers to cast. If they were alone, most of the Demon-Hunter Sorcerers here, or even the Arcane Sorcerers of the sorcerer world would falter.

The other was a sorceress who had silky smooth skin and dark black hair. She wore a hat encrusted with colorful gemstones. She moved with grace and was riding a sika deer. Both her eyes shone brilliantly like stars as she looked at Grimm.

“It’s like this. The Battle Command had officially aborted the mission to infiltrate behind enemy’s lines in the ninth region of the Shadow Empire. We, the Bright sorcerers, are officially taking over.”

The sorceress wore a dimpled smile and was delightfully attractive.

Grimm hadn’t seen such an innocently sweet expression for a very long time. He couldn’t help but glance at the sorceress a couple more times.

After some contemplation, Grimm asked, “Could it be.. has the siege at the shadows ended? Have we conquered our first piece of the Shadow Continent?”

The sorceress did not mind the attention and shown by the sorcerer of the opposite sex at all. She didn’t feel uncomfortable.

“That’s basically it. Somehow, the Amonros’ main battle legion of the Shadow Continent retreated without a fight. They only left numerous low-level Amonros that were defending using guerilla warfare. Therefore, the Battle Command had decided to send back some of the Bright Sorcerers to stabilize our rear. At the same time, Dark Sorcerers who were more adept in clearing out the pockets of guerilla forces were sent to the frontline.”

Hmm?

No resistance?

Grimm pondered in his heart. The longer they dragged on, the more lands the Demon Hunters would conquer, strengthening the Shadow Empire. The situation would be more favorable to the sorcerers.

Could it be that the foolish Amonros were unaware of this notion, hence they weren’t launching an attack on the sorcerers as soon as possible?

“Well, if this situation continues, we may not even need fifty years to complete this expedition, hehe...” the male Bright Sorcerer said laughingly.

“Caw? It only took seventy years to conquer the world? Isn’t it too efficient?’ The Myna cackled incredulously. Its beak was wide open as it perched on Grimm’s shoulder.

For the Myna that still had memories from the ancient times, the strength of sorcerers nowadays had indeed far exceeded its imagination.

Grimm gave a polite smile and the three of them parted their ways shortly after.
