Chapter 177: Yellow Finchs Purpose

But he couldn’t just seize control; it was Su Su’s car, after all. Now that she had offered him the chance, Lin Xian was more than ready.

“Quick, pull over and let me drive.”

“Are you out of your mind?” Su Su stared at him like he had gone crazy. “This isn’t a toy. Driving isn’t as simple as just hitting the accelerator.”

“Oh, please, just pull over!” Lin Xian urged, pointing to where the red Ferrari had vanished around the corner. “If you delay any longer, we’ll never catch them. Can you live with that humiliation? Will you be able to sleep tonight if we don’t catch them?”

Su Su was momentarily speechless. He had a point. She had never felt so insulted. No one had ever dared to be so bold in front of her. She needed to overtake them.

Complying, Su Su slowed the car and pulled over. Lin Xian couldn’t help but smirk internally. Su Su was predictable. Logic and reason were futile with her; a bit of reverse psychology worked perfectly.

Click.

Su Su unbuckled her seatbelt and stepped out. She gave Lin Xian a stern look as he settled into the driver’s seat. “You better not mess this up.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll restore the honor of your Wind God!” Lin Xian reassured her as he buckled up and watched her close the car door.

Vroom!!!!!

The engine roared as Lin Xian slammed the gas pedal, the force pinning them back in their seats. In that moment, Lin Xian felt a deep connection with the car, perfectly in tune with its immense power and sensitive steering.

Years of dream racing had honed Lin Xian’s instincts. He was in complete command, managing the car’s power and reaction time with ease.

The McLaren Wind God burst forward like a sprinting antelope, accelerating rapidly into the traffic ahead.

“Watch out! There’s a car right there!” Su Su screamed. They were in the slow lane after pulling over, and several sluggish vehicles blocked their path to the left. Accelerating this aggressively in such traffic was risky.

To Su Su’s amazement, Lin Xian swiftly turned off all driving aids on the dashboard. The car switched to full manual mode, even the basic stability control was disabled.

Despite the hectic traffic, Lin Xian kept his foot on the gas. The McLaren weaved through cars like a swift snake, dodging obstacles at high speed and still accelerating.

Su Su was stunned. This was still her car, but it now behaved like an entirely different beast, skirting through traffic faster than she could have ever imagined. It surpassed any racing game she had played.

Quickly, the McLaren Wind God shifted from the slow lane to the fast lane, now reaching speeds of 160 kilometers per hour and still increasing.

Ahead was a sharp left turn. Lin Xian showed no signs of slowing down.

Su Su tightened her seatbelt, a mix of fear and excitement taking hold. Being a passenger was drastically different from driving. At this speed, she wasn’t sure how they’d make the turn safely.

She looked over at Lin Xian. He appeared calm and collected, his face showing no sign of stress.

His hand movements were quick and precise, almost like a martial artist, barely visible to the eye.

“Hold on,” he said calmly. The strong centrifugal force pushed Su Su against the door.

The McLaren clung to the inside curve, drifting through the turn with a smooth, almost artistic arc.

Su Su had never seen a car accelerate through a drift before. She had never driven her own car beyond 200 kilometers per hour, and now the speedometer showed 240. At this speed, the surroundings blurred into streaks.

Was it even possible to drive like this?

Su Su’s perspective on driving shattered. Next to Lin Xian, her straightforward driving felt like a kiddie ride at a fair.

By the time they emerged from the turn, the speed had risen to 260 kilometers per hour. They weren’t on a racetrack; this was just an ordinary overpass in the suburbs of Donghai City. Speeding like this was dangerously close to reckless.

Su Su felt slightly sick. She held her breath, her heart racing. The man beside her remained as composed as ever, his limits unreadable.

Lin Xian’s eyes were fixed on the red Ferrari ahead, skillfully navigating through traffic. He was sure it was Yellow Finch driving. She had claimed she wasn’t his enemy, and Lin Xian believed her. She knew too many of his secrets. If she were hostile, he would have been in danger long ago.

“She’s leading us somewhere,” Su Su yelled, pointing at the Ferrari just a few car lengths away. “Overtake her!”

For someone as competitive as Su Su, nothing was more thrilling than passing the car that had mocked her. She leaned forward, tapping Lin Xian on the shoulder.

“Quick! Pass on the left and roll down the right window!”

“Why?”

“I want to give her the finger!”

Lin Xian said nothing in response. Overtaking the Ferrari on a straight stretch was easy for the McLaren, given its superior power.

As the right window rolled down, they slowly passed the Ferrari. Su Su extended her middle finger out the window, a gesture of defiance.

“That felt great!” Su Su exclaimed, a proud smile on her face. “You’re incredible! I owe you one. I wouldn’t have slept tonight if we hadn’t caught her. Here, have some gum.” She offered a piece to Lin Xian.

“No thanks,” Lin Xian replied, his attention still on the rearview mirror.

He knew Yellow Finch wasn’t just racing for fun. She had a purpose.

Indeed, the Ferrari suddenly slowed down, indicating a right turn and exiting the overpass.

Lin Xian promptly followed.

Ahead, the sign for Donghai University Affiliated Hospital glowed in white letters.

Why was Yellow Finch leading him here?

A red light halted Lin Xian as the Ferrari disappeared into the hospital’s parking lot. Lin Xian had been here twice before, both times visiting Xu Yi Yi’s ward and Xu Yun.

Was Yellow Finch’s visit connected to Xu Yun or Xu Yi Yi? She always seemed to lead him to something significant, never revealing her intentions directly.

As the light turned green, Lin Xian drove into the hospital parking lot. He wasn’t concerned about losing Yellow Finch; she was clearly guiding him.

He parked near the hospital entrance. The red Ferrari was already there.

Lin Xian got out of his car.

“Hey, where are you going?” Su Su called from the passenger seat.

“I’m visiting someone. Thanks for the ride. I’ll head home on my own. Bye.”

“Wait!” Su Su’s voice trailed off as Lin Xian walked briskly away, leaving her sitting in the car, her expression uncertain.

Lin Xian approached the Ferrari quickly. The door was unlocked. He pressed the handle, and it swung open automatically.

The car was empty, no sign of Yellow Finch.

“Always so mysterious,” Lin Xian muttered, feeling the warm leather seat, proof that Yellow Finch had just departed. The car keys were left on the dashboard, secured under a napkin.

He picked up the napkin. Written in lipstick on it was a message: “Remember to return the car.”

Lin Xian sighed. Yellow Finch really treated Zhao Ying Jun’s office like her own, taking keys and driving cars freely, similar to his actions with Li Cheng in the dream world.

Stepping out of the car, he scanned the area. Yellow Finch was nowhere to be seen. Finding someone in the dark was nearly impossible, especially someone as elusive as Yellow Finch.

Yet, he was certain she had brought him to Donghai University Affiliated Hospital for a reason, likely to provide some crucial information, as she had before.

The only person in the hospital connected to him was Xu Yi Yi. Lin Xian remembered the frail girl, a shadow of her former self, lying in her hospital bed. After Xu Yun’s death, Lin Xian hadn’t visited her, though he knew Zhao Ying Jun would take good care of her. His guilt and remorse had kept him away.

He had promised himself he’d visit her once he caught Xu Yun’s killer, to share the news. He also vowed to place her in a hibernation chamber once it was invented, fulfilling Xu Yun’s last wish.

But these were just his excuses for delaying the inevitable.

“….” He sighed deeply. He should have visited Xu Yi Yi long ago.

“No matter what,” Lin Xian thought, looking up at the lit windows on the 17th floor. “I should visit Xu Yi Yi’s ward.”
