Chapter 100: Destruction (4)

Chapter 100: Destruction (4)

Luke wasn’t the one who looked tense after the end of the battle. When he looked toward the others, they still were pointing their weapons toward the corpse… a single enemy withstood their attacks for several minutes. That enemy could have killed them in a single attack, so it was like they had defeated the incarnation of death itself. When Luke saw his mother running, he also got up and went to check his father, but the damage was only on his arms. Aside from that, he only had a few scratches.

“Burn that image on your brain, Luke,” Mark said. “The image of your cool father dashing in a heroic manner to protect you. That is your final lesson.”

“You are still speaking nonsense…” Luke said and then sighed. “Rina, if you would, please, heal him.”

Although Mark was acting like usual, he was pale as a ghost due to the pain in his arms, they were completely blue, so it was evident that they had been completely shattered. It almost looked like he had been run over by a truck… Considering the size of the goblin and its speed, perhaps that was really accurate.

“Thank you, little one…” Mark said after he checked his arms and confirmed that the pain was almost gone. “So, you two can help Luke like that.”

“Nice time to analyze their skills…” Luke furrowed his eyebrows. “That really shows how much grateful you are.”

In any case, the mission was almost complete after dealing with the goblin champion… now, they just had to wait for the others and then defeat the remaining hordes around the city. Luke probably could do that by himself with enough grenades, but he doubted that they had that many in the airplane…

After two hours, the group appeared, and they frowned when they saw the huge goblin… Speaking of group, there was the matter about how they should split the loot.

“Since everyone worked together to defeat it, we should split evenly,” Mark said. “That is what I would like to say, but I didn’t do much… anyway, because of Luke’s combination of spells, we had the chance to attack, so I think he should pick the item he wanted first. Does someone disagree?”

No one said a thing. They were just thankful that they leveled up so many times without getting even scratched. Mark leveled up six times and his mother eight, after all. In any case, Luke naturally picked the sword. It was a bit big for him and thick as hell, but he could handle it. When he increased his strength using the status points, Luke could swing it even faster.

Champion Sword (Rare)

A powerful weapon wielded by those who stand above the others of his species.

Strength + 16, Endurance + 08

Special Effect – Leadership: when leading an attack, the bonuses of the weapon duplicate.

Durability: 50/50

“It is a fine sword for a leader that wants to fight alongside others and show them how it is done,” Rina said.

“Even without the effect, it already is a fine sword,” Shalia said, already knowing the meaning behind Rina’s words.

In the end, Amanda and Celia wondered if he should pick the shield and armor and give them to Luke to make him forget the incidents in Miami. Still, they knew that he wouldn’t accept. So, they picked the gloves and boots. Julia got the shield and Mark the armor, and they offered it to Luke, but he couldn’t fight while carrying those since the sword was too heavy.

“Using armor that has skulls and such a flashy shield… this certainly bothers me,” Mark frowned.

“Don’t worry, dear, you look quite dashing,” Julia said while smiling.

Julia was an elementary school teacher because she absolutely loved children. Perhaps that was why she said that someone wearing armor that had had schools looked dashing… She was a bit of an airhead.

Nevertheless, after a while, the airplane landed, and the survivors from Lisbon sighed in relief when they learned that the biggest threat had been dealt with. Still, the job wasn’t done yet… Billy and Mark went to talk with the pilot to see if there were any new updates regarding the other cities, and it seemed that Frank told them to hurry up because the situation in those places was starting to get difficult.

“Apparently, the commander told us to stay behind and guard the civilians. The other soldiers will deal with the hordes,” Billy said.

Luke frowned when he heard that… certainly, the airplane and the survivors shouldn’t remain unguarded. Still, he would be more useful in the very frontlines. After thinking for a while, Luke came to the conclusion that after hearing the report of the situation, Frank decided that his men needed to level up more. Luke was at least ten levels behind them, and he didn’t have proper training, but perhaps they were thinking that he still was stronger than them.

“Humans sure are silly…” Shalia said. “This kind of action is meaningless. Even if they slow down Luke’s progress, it is obvious that it won’t change anything. They were the ones who needed their machines to level up faster, after all.”

“Let’s not get carried away… I got lucky and received a powerful first skill, after all,” Luke said.

“Something like this sometimes is important to keep the power balance in a society,” Rina said. “Otherwise, they might start fearing each other while worrying about a rebellion or someone trying to overtake one’s country or even the world.”

“I can’t see the point of taking over a world filled with zombies… besides, after that, then what?” Luke asked. “That kind of end goal is too troublesome, and there is nothing after that.”

“Once you take over your world, you can take others,” Shalia said.

“I lack the motivation to have such high-level greed…” Luke frowned. “I am a chill guy, despite the problems that I have been facing, this level of tension and difficulties is all that I can handle.”
