Chapter 149 CH 143: FIRST TRUE WEAPON
"Mom, please stop laughing already and focus on the road. We are going to crash!"
It was now around 2 am and there was no light in sight. The mother and son pair was going back home but throughout the way to their home, Cecilia continued to chuckle to herself and kept shaking her head.
Adam could do nothing but cover his face in resignation. He regretted being too forthcoming with his mom and telling her what the ordeal was all about.
At first, Cecilia had been quite a bit surprised by the revelation but then she went on to explode into unbridled laughter, startling all the clients in the bistro they had been occupying.
Ever since then, the laughter hadn\'t stopped for a single moment and was still going strong.
"Pfft~ Haha… Sorry, sorry… I swear I will stop now."
She waved her hands in a sign of apology and continued speaking while paying more attention to the road.
"But you gotta admit that it was very good timing, no?"
He groaned but could say nothing to refute those words. Genesis had already told him that the ordeals were generated based on his current situation and desires.
So clearly, knowing that Shuri\'s husband was actually cheating on her opened a few doors in his mind to obtain that curvaceous aunt of his.
In a way, this was very bad of him. Shortly after feeling sorry for her, he started to think about seducing her.
"Well. It isn\'t like you are forced to proceed with the ordeal, right? The choice is yours, in the end. Nothing and no can compel you to do anything you don\'t want, not even me."
"That is…"
He groaned and Cecilia just grinned. The two of them knew very well that Adam wouldn\'t be embarrassed if he didn\'t actually consider the option of actually going through with it in his mind already.
"Well. We have arrived. You should rest a little or do whatever you want with your time. Most likely in two or three days, they will send you your ID and credentials to access the main platform for hunters."
Cecilia became more serious with her explanations. "You play games, right? So it\'s basically like a quest board with the reward and level of dangers carefully calculated by the Association. Of course, all missions have an element of risk so the choice is yours if you want to partake in them or not."
They walked out of the car and soon reached the door of their home. "The good thing is that… for any mission you take, all extra charges will be completely free. This means flying in first class and being lodged in a high-class hotel with all that jazz is included in your free services. Hunters may risk their lives on a regular basis but the advantages are really good too, so it is worth it, in the end."
She took out her key and unlocked the door, "You can also try joining a mercenary group or create one yourself. Only silver ranks and above can create an official mercenary group so it\'s your call. Honestly, I say only take the missions in LA or California at first then expand from there."
When they entered, they could see both Viktor and Makarov coming up from the basement of their home. Both were shirtless and sweaty, clearly having just finished working.
"Oh, hey laddie. How was your test?"
Cecilia grinned and head locked Adam, "What do you think old man? This is my son. He is Gold ranked already."
Makarov whistled in surprise while Viktor opened his eyes wide, "Holy hot damn. Congratulations son. Gold rank is an incredible achievement."
He looked at Viktor who nodded, "Well, since we received such good news, I guess we can also give you one."
He patted Viktor who stumbled a little before awkwardly shuffling, "Well. The first prototype is finished. I hope you will like it."
"Oh?" Adam\'s eyes twinkled in anticipation. He had realized the importance of weapons in his duel with Makoto. Perhaps in the future, he would be able to make do without them, but as of now, having a good weapon was necessary for him.
The last dagger he had used for the Railgun had been completely vaporized due to the intensity of his electromagnetic powers.
"Well let\'s take a bath then we will show you your equipment."
.
.
.
A few dozen minutes later, the four of them were now in the workshop as Adam looked at the weapons Viktor had created for him.
At first glance, they looked like long knives more than anything.
"Since they are prototypes we focused first on the durability. They are obviously covered in silver and were plunged into high-class holy water. The blades alone are very sharp and Prana conducive."
He took out the knife and pushed it against one of the wooden pillars. The knife entered like there was no obstacle in its path, burrowing into the wood like it didn\'t even exist.
"Since you use lightning. I added some Purple rock into the mix. It\'s a kind of sacred rock used in Japan during the ceremony to pray for the god of the storm. This will make any lightning-type attack even more deadly and the weapon itself will have less chance of being damaged by the extensive use of lightning. I wanted to add some sun rock as well but I sadly can\'t handle the material very well yet."
"You mean you nearly exploded my whole workshop trying to do that. right?"
Viktor chuckled weakly at that remark by his grandfather but could offer no rebuttal. Sun rock was even more effective than holy water quenching. But they were also extremely unstable. So he had to give up on trying to add that to Adam\'s weapons.
Adam was transfixed by the knives.
"They are beautiful."
The knives weren\'t just straight swords with only an edge to them. The blade had jagged teeth and he could already imagine how much damages they would do when embedded inside a victim. There was a slight purple hue that gave the impression that one was looking at the embodiment of lightning itself.
It was a perfect mixture of elegance and murderous intent.
Viktor grinned at Adam\'s praise but he wasn\'t finished yet. "Of course, if this was it then it wouldn\'t be enough to label us as the best weaponsmiths in the world. Since you can move object around and can use some illusions, I experimented a little."
He took the second knife and pointed at the ceiling before filling it with Prana.
Whoosh!
Like a bullet, the blade was ejected from the hilt and pierced the ceiling above.
"Can you see the thread?"
Adam squinted slightly at Viktor\'s last words and could indeed see, under the light, a very thin thread that connected the blade to the hilt.
"This is Arachne thread. Well, not the true one. But it is as close a material as possible to the real deal. The thread, despite how thin it looks, is extremely sturdy. It should easily support a weight of more than 3 tons without straining the tension and even more so if you fill it with Prana. But that isn\'t all."
Viktor took a random blade and hit the place where the thread should have been.
Crack~
A breaking sound filled the room as the blade was nearly cut in two.
"Extremely sharp, nearly invisible, and can be extended to up to 300 meters as long as you fill it with Prana. The true Arachne thread can extend to an infinite distance from what the legend says. But 300 meters is pretty good in my opinion."
Makarov grunted, "Honestly, the blade itself is just passable but that thread makes things different. That little dunce had a good idea for once. Furthermore, while the thread doesn\'t bring any boost to lightning, it\'s also a good Prana conductor in itself."
If before, Adam was surprised, now he looked like some kid that was given a Christmas gift he had always dreamed of.
Just thinking about all the possible traps he could make in the future made him want to immediately take the weapon and give it a try.
"Haha. I can see that you are very happy. But this isn\'t all. Right, Viktor?"
"Yeah. At the end of the day, those are supposed to be hidden weapons."
He took two wrists guard and worked by placing the blade in them before giving them to Adam.
"Those wrist guards are also extremely sturdy. At least they can serve as good shields sometimes. But they are even better for this."
"Try them."
Adam placed the wrist guards on his arms and made a few movements.
They were so thin. Even though he had them on, he could barely feel the difference. Even if he were to wear a shirt with a long sleeve, they would be nearly undetectable.
Viktor explained the mechanisms to him and before long Adam could switch between having the blade in and out as well as simply shooting them in the distance.
He looked up for an instant as he thought if he could start swinging around the building like a friendly spider.
Though a more deadly version of it.
All of this while, Cecilia observed the scene with a funny expression on her face.
This weapon alone could be considered a treasure but here Viktor was acting like it was simply a weapon barely good enough to be given to him.
She gave a look at Makarov who sighed bitterly.
How could he tell her that because he always said Viktor could do better and with how the young lad would see the weapon he made every time, Viktor had a weird perception of what actually counted as a good weapon?
\'Well. In a way, it\'s a good thing.\'
His grandson only strived for the best rather than being satisfied with something mediocre.
"Well. This is it for the exposition. Now we need data from you. Since you are a hunter now, you should give them a try during a few missions."
"I…"
Adam closed his eyes and nodded.
"Thank you."
He didn\'t have Cecilia\'s experience. But he didn\'t need to. It was easy to see that this was already a precious weapon and they were preparing an even more precious one for him in the future.
"I promise I will use them well."
"This is all I can ask for. Also, be careful. This is a prototype so it doesn\'t have the Prana recognition function installed. Be careful about having it stolen from you."
"Don\'t worry. I will be careful with it."
———
After this both Viktor and Makarov went to their room. They were terribly tired and understandingly so.
Cecilia also went to sleep, leaving Adam alone as he looked at a message on his phone.
[Sender: Yui
Message: Adam, come to the Bar tomorrow night. We are reopening. We also need to speak.]
He narrowed his eyes at the message.
So many things had happened that he had actually nearly forgotten one fact.
He was supposed to be working as a Gigolo.
(AN: Hope you liked the description of the weapon. This is kinda a mixture between an Assassin\'s Creed weapon and another weapon I loved from a Manga called Arachnid. This is Adam\'s first true weapon but won\'t be the last.)
