Chapter 765 - Who Asked Her to Be Kefeng’s Future Boss?
Chapter 765: Who Asked Her to Be Kefeng’s Future Boss?
Manager Wu guessed that it was probably to discuss the issue of Tan Jinsheng’s participation in the variety show, the thought of which relieved him.
As long as it was not for his business…
However, a call from Yan Zhengxing quickly dispelled his relief.
“Mr Yan,” Manager Wu answered.
“Manager Wu, please make your way to the conference room on the fourth floor,” Yan Zhengxing said.
For reasons unknown to him, Manager Wu felt an ominous foreboding. Why was his presence required in the conference room on the fourth floor?
“Okay. May I know what is the matter?” Manager Wu enquired.
“We’ll talk when you’re here.” Yan Zhengxing’s tone of voice carried no discernable inflexions. It sounded quite neutral.
Manager Wu did not know what to make of it.
Yan Zhengxing had spoken as he normally would so that Manager Wu would not flee in fear.
“Alright,” Manager Wu hung up the phone uncertainly. It seemed like he would need to go to the meeting room if he wanted to know what was going on.
Tan Mo and her two siblings were still in the room when he arrived. The various sectional leaders of the variety show production department had already left.
“Mr Xu, Mr Yan,” Manager Wu’s attitude this time was extremely good, “Director Tan, Scriptwriter Tan.”
Manager Wu even managed a short greeting of ‘Teacher Tan’ right at the end.
Xu Dashi raised his eyebrows. Why had not Manager Wu been this respectful before?
If only he knew how to pick his battles, he wouldn’t have offended Tan Mo and her siblings.
Too little, too late.
Tan Mo was unphased by Manager Wu’s change in attitude.
Smiling faintly, she asked, “Manager Wu, do you still remember our bet?”
Manager Wu: “..”
“This…” Manager Wu could not say he did not remember.
Even if he did, the people before him would ensure he remembered.
“It’s just like I said before. If ‘Broken Continent results are good, it proves that Manager Wu’s vision isn’t big enough. It would show your incompetence and that you would resign voluntarily,” Tan Mo casually said.
“The results of ‘Broken Continent’ now are clear,” Tan Mo continued, “Manager Wu, isn’t it time to fulfil your end of the bet?”
This
Manager Wu was dumbfounded. He thought Tan Mo was going to let him go!
“Scriptwriter Tan, my bad judgment caused me to make mistakes, but can you…”
“No one has ever failed to fulfil a bet made with me,” Tan Mo interrupted. ‘Of course, it’s because I have never let anyone who has crossed me off.”
“Manager Wu, isn’t it about time you admit defeat?” Tan Mo smiled at Manager Wu with a smile.
“It isn’t just about the bet, Manager Wu,” Xu Dashi spoke up. “Your selfishness caused you to lose sight of the company’s interests. You allied with conspirators and harmed the company’s interests. We should have fired you when we dealt with Manager Liang.”
“It was only out of respect for the bet you made with Tan Mo that we withheld your notice of dismissal,” Xu Dashi said. “This isn’t a negotiation. Even if you hadn’t made a bet, your previous actions are enough to warrant your dismissal.”
“Twouldntt have taken the risk if not for the bet! ‘Broken Continent’ would not have aired at the same time as the other drama, and the company’s profit margin would be greater than it is now. The one who should be held responsible is Tan Mo, not me!* Manager Wu blubbered anxiously, not thinking before
he spoke.
“That’s ‘Schrodinger’s if,,” Yan Zhengxing sneered, “Who can say for sure what would have happened? Events have played out as they have and can’t be changed. Whether or not the bet would have changed your actions is beside the point. The company’s primary concem is the result, not the process.”
“There are no ifs,” Xu Dashi concurred, “It’s a question of what has been done rather than what could have been done. You’ve made your bed. Now lie in it. You must take responsibility for your actions.”
“Your dismissal isn’t up for discussion; the company is giving you notice of your dismissal right now,” Xu Dashi informed Manager Wu curtly. “The company has sent an email to inform you of your dismissal.”
Manager Wu blanched.
He had been fired before anyone could tell him!
“The evidence is conclusive. Manager Liang has provided the company with the details of your cooperation. The company has judged your actions to have brought harm to its interests,” Xu Dashi’s words were the final nail in the coffin.
“Please pack your belongings. The company no longer requires your expertise.”
While Xu Dashi was speaking, Yan Zhengxing had taken the liberty to call the security guards. They would be Manager Wu’s escorts out of the premises.
At this moment, Manager Wu experienced the fickleness of life.
He had worked hard to reach his position, but this one misstep involving ‘Broken Continent’ was enough to cost him everything, It was one of the greatest turning points in his life.
He had lost his job.
He would never have imagined losing his job just a month earlier, much less after a few words said against him.
With Manager Wu’s resignation, Tan Mo did not have anything else to do. ‘If there’s anything I can help you with regarding the variety show, please let me know,” she said.
She left with Tan Jingi and Tan Jinsheng.
Tan Mo’s parting words were out of politeness.
Xu Dashi was a professional, and there was no need for a layman like her to instruct him every step of the way.
However, two days later, Tan Mo received another call from Xu Dashi.
The variety show production department had already drafted a new plan and wanted to invite her over for a look. If any revisions were necessary, it would help if she were around to assist in their brainstorming of a solution.
After eating with her second brother, Tan Mo agreed to their request without hesitation.
She did not call Tan Jingi or Tan Jinsheng. Instead, she went to Kefeng Films alone.
As an artist about to participate in the Kefeng Films variety show, Tan Jinsheng could not be overly conspicuous, or he might face allegations of nepotism.
Even less had to be said for Tan Jingi, who was now a famous drama director. He could not possibly be free all the time.
If Tan Jingi were to make an appearance, it would have to be because of something very important. Perhaps something along the lines of a new proposal for ‘I Sing’.
Tan Mo felt that this was a price she needed to pay. Not only was she the future boss of Kefeng Films, but she was also pulling strings behind the scenes to help her brother along in his career. A bit of free labour was a small price to pay by comparison.
She could not very well drag Tan Jingi along to act as free labour now, could she?
Tan Mo cleared her throat with this thought in ming, feeling a little embarrassed. Although she looked guilty by all accounts, none of her family members noticed anything strange about her.
With that hurdle out of the way, Tan Mo heaved a sigh of relief.
She was not so thick-skinned that she would openly proclaim herself to be the future boss of Kefeng Films.
It was just… well. Wasn’t that what the people of the Kefeng Films said as well?
Shi Shulei had let it slip in a moment’s carelessness.
Although he corrected himself at the last minute, it did not take a genius to know what he was going to say. He practically called Tan Mo ‘Boss’.
.. Iwas an open secret, and everyone expected her to take the reins eventually.
Besides, Wei Zhigian, the two elders, and Wei Zhigian’s parents thought the same.
Therefore, Tan Mo felt that she was quite generous in pretending not to have heard him and did not shy away from this new form of address.
