“She didn’t say,” Qin Chu replied coldly.

“The deceased, Miss Song, had only seen you on the night of her death. We have reasons to believe that you’re the murderer.”

“I agree that the evidence presents itself perfectly, but unfortunately, I’m not a murderer. I will not be pleading guilty,” Qin Chu answered calmly, with no sign of anxiousness or impatience.

Huo Mian watched from the crowd, this was the Qin Chu that she loved dearly. She loved seeing his nonchalant attitude even when the world was about to come to an end.

“Your Honor, I’ve finished my list of questions,” the opposing lawyer said.

“Defendant, do you have anything else to add to help your case? Perhaps you should revisit your memory a little to ensure you haven’t left out any important leads?” the Judge looked at Qin Chu and asked.

Huo Mian became a little anxious, the palm of her hand was beginning to sweat.

Right then, Su Yu passed over a tissue. “Here, for your hands.”

Huo Mian received the tissue absentmindedly, bunched it up in her palms and never for a second moved her eyes away from Qin Chu.

“No, I do not have anything else to say.” Qin Chu knew that no matter what he added, it would not help his case one bit. Huo Siqian had probably prepared for everything, so nothing he says would make a difference.

“Are you pleading guilty?”

“No, I didn’t kill anyone,” Qin Chu repeated.

“The first trial will end here, we’ll have the second trial seven days later and reach a verdict then. Court is adjourned.” The Chief Judge slammed the gavel down and ended the one-hour-long court trial.

As Qin Chu was being taken away, his eyes never left Huo Mian. He lifted one arm to portray the act of drinking something and smiled at Huo Mian.

Huo Mian knew what he meant. The distance was too far for words, he could only do gestures to get his message across. He was telling her to drink lots of water and take care of herself.

With tears in her eyes, Huo Mian signaled in sign language to Qin Chu, “I love you very much, I will wait for your return.”

Qin Chu understood immediately; he nodded slightly before being taken away to the exit by the police.

Huo Mian stood up and quickly left as soon as Qin Chu’s shadow disappeared in the back. Su Yu trailed behind her as he noticed something was off about Huo Mian.

Huo Mian walked out of the court room, push and pulled her way out of the media and got in her car. The engine roared to life, and in a second, Huo Mian’s car shot out of the parking lot at a high speed.

“Su Yu, hurry. Follow her and make sure she’s alright.”

“I will.” Su Yu jumped on his Lamborghini and quickly followed Huo Mian.

“I’m worried about Mian, she didn’t look well,” Jiang Xiaowei said worrily.

“Don’t worry, Su Yu is there.”

“Was Mian crying?” Zhu Lingling asked Gao Ran. Gao Ran simply held onto her waist tightly with an arm and didn’t reply.

“That bastard, Huo Siqian! He’s done so much harm to Mian and Qin Chu, I’m going to go rip him apart.” Suddenly, Zhu Lingling pushed Gao Ran away and ran towards Huo Siqian.

Huo Siqian was just about to get into the car when he saw Zhu Lingling stomping her way towards him. He looked at her alarmingly.

“Huo Siqian, are you a f*cking man?”

“My manhood doesn’t concern you.” Huo Siqian scanned Zhu Lingling’s face coldly.

“You bastard!” Zhu Lingling yelled as she threw herself forward to attack Huo Siqian, but the latter simple gave a rough shove, pushing Zhu Lingling onto the ground.

Gao Ran ran up immediately to help Zhu Lingling get up. “Lingling, are you okay?”

“Captain Gao, watch your family member. We live in a civilized society and your family member is attacking people right in front of the media. Does she think she’s above the law?”

“My wife doesn’t need lecturing from you!” Gao Ran clenched his jaw and spewed back.

“Huh. You two better pray that you don’t land in my hands.” Huo Siqian scanned their faces darkly. He then got into the car and sped out of the parking lot.

“Bastard! You will die in hell!” Zhu Lingling yelled behind the car.

“Lingling, calm down. Doing that didn’t accomplish anything but get yourself hurt.” Gao Ran hugged her tightly as his heart ached.

“Gao Ran is right, Lingling. We have to believe in Mian, and also believe in Qin Chu that he will be alright,” Jiang Xiaowei chimed in.

Su Yu thought he would be able to catch up to Huo Mian in no time and even speed in front of her to stop her. But, little did he ever think he would chase her from the Second Ring Road to the Third, from the Third Ring Road to the Fourth, and still fail to catch up to Huo Mian.

Su Yu had never seen Huo Mian speed like this, she was practically flooring the gas pedal.

No wonder she KO’ed Song Yixuan, who was a professional racer.

Finally, Huo Mian stopped the car on an out-of-the way beach. She got out and sat on a rock with her head held low.

“I’m exhausted, why were you driving so fast?” Su Yu followed Huo Mian, trying to catch his breath.

“Su Yu, do you think Qin Chu will receive the death penalty during the second trial?” Huo Mian lifted her face as she asked. Su Yu noticed the streams of tears on her face and felt his heart ache to the point he could no longer breathe.

He had never seen Huo Mian so fragile, as if she was a glass doll that might shatter upon touch.
