Chapter 212 - He Waited For A Long Time
Yu Xuan Li, who was greatly humiliated by what had just happened was now regretting his decision to come to this place. Not only was his image as a cold and calculative prince shattered in front of their eyes, he also happened to be played by this young lady.
Looking at her resplendent appearance, it was too bad that she was no ordinary young lady. She even dared to use her words to blatantly stab him with shame, who knows what else she could do.
"Your highness, why don\'t you follow me inside to see my grandfather. I was on my way to see him anyway." Lin Xiaofei sounded so polite. Her previous words and action felt like an illusion if not for the glint in her eyes.
"Follow you? Young lady, if it weren\'t for you blocking his highness\' way. We wouldn\'t be in this kind of situation!" The eunuch spat as he glared down at her.
But Lin Xiaofei was not an opponent he could face head on..
"How could it be my fault? By your words, did I put that rock that tripped his highness?" Lin Xiaofei looked frightened but only fools would believe that innocent facade she wore on her face.
"You!"
Lin Xiaofei narrowed her eyes at the eunuch. She was tired of him pointing his finger at her and stuttering, not completing his words. Was she supposed to help him completely construct his sentence for him so that they could communicate properly?
Ridiculous!
"Enough." Yu Xuan Li felt his temple bulging from how stupid he looked now. Even the people under him were incompetent. "Help this prince up."
The eunuch and the other male attendants pulled him up slowly. Yu Xuan Li dusted the dirt from his clothes before glaring at Lin Xiaofei.
Then, he said, "Let\'s return. Since General Lin refuses to see me, I shall hope that he won\'t regret his decision."
After saying this words, Yu Xuan Li didn\'t bother taking another glance at Lin Xiaofei and left. His men were left in confusion as they didn\'t know what made the prince leave on his own volition when they clearly discussed before entering the Lin residence that they would see the General no matter who blocked their way and succeed in getting what they came for.
His imperial mother concubine and Princess Gao would surely be disappointed when they hear that the Fifth Prince was not able to take the antidote from the Lin family.
"Your highness, are we just going to give up? What about the princess? She needs the antidote more than anyone else." The eunuch spoke for the sake of the princess.
Yu Xuan Li\'s steps paused before he continued and stepped inside his carriage. Once seated, he replied to the eunuch who was now sitting before him, "The Lin family doesn\'t have the antidote. At least as far as I can see, they shouldn\'t have the ability to make it."
"Then, doesn\'t that mean that the General will soon meet his Maker?"
Yu Xuan Li nodded.
Although his mission to get the antidote failed, he succeeded getting some information. Initially, he thought that the actions of the Eldest Lin Master and that young lady Lin was a diversion for him to think that the old general was really sick but in fact he was already cured. However, he noticed that the other members of the Lin family seemed to not have the knowledge that the old general was poisoned, or else they would have flocked the general\'s side and try to get favor from him before he passes away.
That only means that Lin Feng hid the truth from his younger brother and the rest of the Lin family in order to hog the Lin family\'s entire wealth without sharing anything to the other people in the family.
As the Fifth Prince continued to create his own theory, back inside the Lin residence, Lin Xiaofei shrugged her shoulders. She didn\'t care about the prince who embarrassed himself in front of her just to prove something to everyone only to shot himself in the foot.
"Xiaofei, the fifth prince will probably make things hard for you. You shall not come out in public without a guard beside you." Lin Feng scrunched up his eyebrows. He was already worried about his father\'s condition and with today\'s encounter with the fifth prince, it would be better if Lin Xiaofei were to look after herself.
Lin Feng wasn\'t too clear with the fifth prince\'s character but since he was part of the royal family, it could be said that the fifth prince was not a good person. He would most probably scheme against this niece and try to humiliate her.
Lin Xiaofei was once again surprised at the man standing on the side. He was showing his concerns for her wellbeing. Previously, Lin Feng only showed some emotions to her since she saved Lin Xiaomeng but upon seeing him acting this way, Lin Xiaofei understood that this man was genuinely thinking about her safety.
"Don\'t worry, uncle. I don\'t have any plan to put myself into a difficult situation." said Lin Xiaofei before she turned around to go back to her courtyard.
She planned to see her grandfather but since her morning was ruined because of a snake that crawled its way to her Lin residence, she decided not to let her grandfather see her in her bad mood.
"Alright, you go back and rest. Don\'t worry about your grandfather. I\'ll take care of him and the other matters in the residence."
They soon said their goodbyes and split. Once Lin Xiaofei returned to her inner courtyard, she let her personal maids out of her room and changed out of her outer robes.
Wearing only her inner robes and preparing to sleep more, Lin Xiaofei stepped in her quilt and lied down her bed.
However, just as she positioned herself in her bed, she felt something moving to circle around her waist.
She stiffened mid-action and lifted the quilt to see that an arm was now holding her waist. Her eyes followed the arm and landed on the person whose arm was holding her waist and saw a pair of dark obsidian eyes that stared dangerously at her.
"I waited for a long time. Where did you go?" Lin Xiaofei heard a familiar deep voice that seemed to shake her soul out of her body.
Staring blankly at him, she heard him continue, "Still staring at me. Did you miss me so much that you can\'t take your eyes off me now?"
Right… how could she forgot how shameless this man was.
